The Spark

My love affair with stories began in India, devouring Tamil novels and getting lost in the rhythm of words. But as life shifted into the fast-paced world of IT, the books were pushed aside by schedules and screens. It wasn’t until I moved to the US with my one-year-old son that the "magic" returned. In the quiet aisles of American libraries, I found my voice again. I wasn’t just reading board books to my son; I was performing them.

When my son’s preschool teacher invited me to tell a story to his class, I thought I was not ready. But as I performed, I watched the children’s eyes light up, I realized something: I wasn’t just reading a book; I was weaving a world.

The Turning Point

Life brought me to Canada, along with the challenges of a pandemic and a new pregnancy. Yet, the yearning for stories remained strong. In 2022, I took a leap of faith and applied to perform in the Toronto International Storytelling Festival. At the time, I didn't even know the difference between "reading books" and "oral storytelling."

That performance defined everything. It helped me find my incredible mentors whose guidance and enthusiasm helped me win the 2023 Emerging Storyteller Award from the SCCC(Storytellers of Canada). I stepped "beyond the pages" and discovered the raw, rhythmic power of the spoken word—a tradition I now share with global audiences.

The New Chapter: In Print & Pixel

Today, my journey has come full circle. I am no longer just telling stories; I am building a legacy for the next generation. As an author and self-publisher, I have begun a new adventure: delivering ancient wisdom using modern technology. I have published my first set of children’s picture books—vibrant, AI-illustrated journeys into world folktales and the magnificent depths of Indian mythology. My mission is to ensure that the stories of the rich Hindu heritage aren't just remembered—they are celebrated and tresured.

Whether I am chanting a rhythmic tale on a global stage, teaching Tamil to young learners, or designing my next book for a child’s bookshelf, my goal is the same: to kindle the imagination. In a world of fleeting digital videos, I believe the "simple spark" of a story told from the heart is the most powerful magic we have.
